The Answer Guy 52: Identifying the Integrated Video Chipset
"The Linux Gazette...making Linux just a little more fun!"
Identifying the Integrated Video Chipset
From Phoenix on Thu, 23 Mar 2000
I am trying to setup X-Windows and am having problems with finding
out my graphics type. I have and integrated chip (Intel's
82810-DC100). I would like to know which server I can use so that
I can get X-Windows to finally run.
Response greatly appreciated
Daniel
Usually your best bet is to just run the SuperProbe utility
(Included with most Linux distributions). Just log in as root
and type the command: SuperProbe (note the uppercase S and P)
and hit enter. Wait for a few seconds.
This might hang your system or cause other problems. So
I suggest doing it from single user mode to be on the safe side.
This will give you a warning, pause for a few seconds, possibly
flicker your screen and give a report like
[sorry, hit my "send" keys instead of the ones to "switch to
cut/paste" screen]
[ I have to say, the effect when I saw it with no report
was pretty funny --
since one of the things SuperProbe can do, in very rare
circumstances, is hang the system.

RUNNING THIS PROGRAM.

time I can remember sending off an Answer Guy prematurely!]
